My Latest Embroidery Pieces

I have wanted a chainstitch machine ever since i started selling vintage over 10 years ago because its distinct look is so unique and vintage chainstitch embroidered clothing is rare and coveted. A lot of chainstitch embroidered clothing is done by hand but even when its done by machine it is free hand which takes skill and practice.

These are my first pieces so there are imperfections, but I am getting the hang of it. Sometimes I actually like the fact that they are imperfect simply because it looks homemade and its obvious that it was not done with a computerized automatic machine. I believe custom and handmade clothing will increase in popularity and demand and people desire more and more to express their individuality.

It was a tough decision, but I have decided to sell my first pieces because I want others to wear and share my work to the world. I simply cannot become attached because there are so many more things that are to come and I could always make something again if I wanted. The one piece I will have a difficult time giving up is the Denim Coat with the huge Ohio Star. Mostly because this one was the very first I decided to do and the coat is very high quality denim, lined and handmade. I also love it because it has a western vibe but its not to overt. The Ohio star is so thick and soft, overall a very beautiful piece.

One of the reasons I decided to do a western inspired collection is because in the 40’s and 50’s chain stitch embroidery was most commonly found on western wear. Now, these are not meant to be period correct, these are my interpretations of what initially inspired me. I was also inspired by the national parks and places where I have lived. I wanted to do a mix of coastal culture and western culture. I don’t feel like I’m fully finished yet I have a lot more ideas, so I’m planning on adding to this collection.

I made a video compilation of the process that you can watch below.
