Vintage Summer Skort - How To

1960’s vintage skort pattern

I go thrifting a lot! But lately, it’s been getting harder and harder to consistently score vintage clothing at a thrift store for several reasons that I won’t go into. One of the places people ignore though is the crafts sections at thrift stores! So I have been snagging up all the vintage patterns I can along with fabric and notions so that I can make my own period-correct pieces that actually look vintage!

Skorts are one of the best inventions because you can get that mini skirt look without being completely immobilized all day or flashing anyone accidentally. I wanted to make a skort that I could play tennis in and go to lunch in and still look put together and cute. I love lulu lemon don’t get me wrong! But some days I want to look like I put at least a little effort and I feel more like myself when I’m dressed in vintage.

The Pattern

This pattern was generally pretty easy, and I was able to make alterations without any problems. One of the details I loved about this piece was how it had a zipper on both sides of the skirt so that you could have the option to give your skirt a slit and show off the shorts underneath. There are so many creative things you could do with this pattern! I love making really unique clothes that are truly one of a kind.

The biggest alteration I made to the pattern was the skirt length, I am extremely short so I shortened the pattern by about one foot! No joke!

I scanned the pattern so that you could see all of the steps and instructions!

Tools & Supplies

I made a short video on the process but excluded the parts where I made several mistakes including accidentally cutting through my fabric TWICE! So sad… but you live and you learn. This is the first video I have ever made for a project, so I hope you like it!
